Exclusive Excerpt:

“Fuck me,” I murmur. At the sound of my desperate, breathy voice, Drew turns and I about faint. I’ve never seen anything so sexy. I drink him in, long eyelashes to thick calves. His shaggy brown hair hangs over his gentle eyes, making him look adorably nefarious. He slings an axe over his shoulder and his abs wripple in the firelight. The chiseled V dipping into his boxers draws my attention down to the impressive bulge that has my mouth watering. He is powerful and dangerous. The wild mountain man is my new favorite fantasy. Our eyes lock and I swear every muscle in my body goes limp. That’s the only explanation for my mouth dropping open and my wine glass slipping out of my hand. It shatters into a thousand pieces on the tile floor, the wine splashing on my feet snaps me out of my stupor. I stare down at the shards, but lack any ability to process the sight. Drew is around the couch in a blink, stepping up beside me close enough I can smell his woodsy scent. “Hope that wasn’t expensive,” he snips and I remember I hate the sexy brute. Needing space to breath, I shove him away. Hard. “It’s your fault. You scared the shit out of me.” “What did I do?” I gesture to his naked body and the axe he left back by the fireplace. “I thought I was going to be murdered in my sleep! What the hell are you doing?” “Making a fire,” he replies flatly, like I’m the crazy one. Like naked lumberjacking is a thing. Holy crap, I wish it was a thing.

About Amelia Kingston:

Amelia Kingston is many things, the most interesting of which are probably California girl, writer, traveler, and dog mom. She survives on chocolate, coffee, wine, and sarcasm. Not necessarily in that order. She’s been blessed with a patient husband who’s embraced her nomad ways and traveled with her to over 30 countries across 5 continents (I’m coming for you next, Antarctica!). She’s also been cursed with an impatient (although admittedly adorable) terrier who pouts when her dinner is 5 minutes late. She writes about strong, stubborn, flawed women and the men who can't help but love them. Her irreverent books aim to be silly and fun with the occasional storm cloud to remind us to appreciate the sunny days. As a hopeless romantic, her favorite stories are the ones that remind us all that while love is rarely perfect, it’s always worth chasing.

This isn’t an angsty, tear-your-heart-out, ugly-cry romance. This is a love story.
Kira Abelman forgot what it was like to have fun. She spent her teens at the front of the stage cheering for Immortal Angel at every show. Her life had been filled with excitement and adrenaline. Now, as A&R rep for her father’s record company, she’s overworked, overtired and spread thin.
A fleeting encounter with a sexy, bearded and tattooed roadie lights up her boring life with passion. But with 3,000 miles between them and careers that send them in different directions, can Kira finally get her happily ever after and prove that fairy tales do come true?

Jenna Galicki writes in multiple genres including mmf, mf, and mm. She loves music, Rottweilers, and meeting new people. A native New Yorker, she now calls Southern California home. When she’s not hunched over a computer, you can find her front row at a rock concert.

Minutes later, Kira stood on the curb staring into the eyes of a man she’d met 48 hours ago. Never had someone had such a profound effect on her before or changed her life in such a short time. She found the fun and carefree girl she used to be, without knowing she’d lost her. She’d let her career consume her time and become her main priority, but not anymore. Brett showed her how to enjoy life again, and she was going to take advantage of it. “Thank you for the most remarkable few days I’ve ever had. You’re an amazing man.”
“You’re an amazing woman.” He suddenly wrinkled his brow and frowned. “Why does this sound like goodbye?”
“It is goodbye, Brett. We live on opposite sides of the country. You’re off touring with bands. I’m in New York buried up to my eyeballs in work.”
“I thought we’d keep in touch.”
“I want to,” she said, weakly. “But . . .” She didn’t need to tell him what would happen. They’d exchange a few phone calls. Time between calls would lengthen until they were just a memory. Maybe they’d get to see each other once or twice before time and distance pulled them apart. She refused to be just a quick roll in the sheets whenever they happened to be in the same city at the same time. She wanted a relationship. Companionship. The long-distance thing never worked, and she wasn’t going to put her heart through the wringer. It was better to have a clean break now.
She stared into his expressive brown eyes, and her heart hurt. He looked so sad. His hard and confident gaze turned soft and pleading, and she couldn’t hurt him with the truth. She cupped his face in her hands, purposely running the tips of her fingers through the grain of his beard. She rubbed her cheek against it so she wouldn’t forget what it felt like. It was a soft, bristly feeling that she would reminisce about for a long time to come.
“Call me when you get to New York,” he whispered in her ear.
She nodded. “I will.”
With his hands pressed against the small of her back, he brushed his lips against hers in a soft kiss filled with passion. His probing tongue pushed deeper and bathed her mouth with a last kiss. She savored it, memorized every swirl of his tongue, the way his arms felt around her, and the way his chest pressed against hers. She moaned at the way his facial hair tickled her cheek as he rotated his mouth in a slow circle.
She swore she wouldn’t cry, but she had no control over the tears that swelled on her lower lids. “I’m gonna miss you.”
“This isn’t goodbye.” His voice was shaky with emotion and barely audible as he repeated, “This isn’t goodbye.”

For years, she has dreamed about him. Now here he is—his eyes blue, his chest wide, and his hands in cuffs.

Sure, Aiden says he doesn't want her help, and his ties to a deadly motorcycle club should give her warning. Yes, her new boss is a sexy Italian bad boy who might be using the case to climb to the top. Plus, the detective assigned to the case, with his green eyes and broad shoulders, wants her to stay out of his way.

With so much testosterone surrounding her all of a sudden, most women would find it hard to concentrate. This might be why the case leads Anna to yelp during a spa appointment, fall out of a tree, and chase a naked old man around the courtroom. It's a good thing Anna learned a long time ago to be her own hero, no matter how fast the bullets fly or the kisses consume.

Excerpt from My Billionaire Fake Fiancé by Elyse Riggs

Oh shit. I have somebody covering for me in the kitchen. If my boss catches me here, he’s going to fire my ass.
I have to think of something, and fast.
Out of pure instinct and panic, I do the only thing I can think of. I roll all the way over onto Chase. The last thing I see is the surprised expression on his face before I throw my lips on top of his to keep my boss from being able to recognize me.
I don’t want to take any chances, and when Chase pauses the kiss, I press in even further, slipping in my tongue. That brings a slight moan to his lips. And then, all of a sudden, my heart is pumping wildly for a completely different reason.
I pull out of the kiss. My body is on fire now and every inch of it is hyper aware of Chase’s body underneath me.
A quick glance down the beach confirms that the coast is clear. That was a close one.
“What the hell?” he asks when he finally comes up for air. His green eyes flash fury at me. “I thought you didn’t want to do this sort of thing in public?”
I roll my eyes at him. “Calm down. I only did it because I saw my boss. That means he could have seen me. And that would get me fired.”
I exhale and start to roll off of Chase back to my spot. Only before I can, a firm hand grips my nearly bare hip, stopping me. The move is unexpected and sends a surge of want through me.
It’s my turn to shoot him an angry glare. Ten seconds ago he was angry at me for the PDA. Now he’s on board? “What the hell, Chase? Let me go.”
“Nope,” he says. “Stay here for a couple more minutes.”
He smirks up at me, and there’s no longer anger flashing in his eyes. “Don’t be alarmed, but I have a huge boner.”
“You’ve got to be kidding me.”
“Hey,” he objects, “you’re the one who rolled on top of me and started sucking out my tonsils. Plus, you were squirming.”
“I wasn’t squirming,” I object. “You can’t turn that thing off for, like, ten seconds?” I ask.
“Um, that’s not how dicks work, Kaylee.”

Genre: Fantasy/New Adult
Format: eBook

Nineteen-year-old Tristaine lived a life of bitterness. When her mother abandoned her family, and her father began drinking, Tris discovered the only thing that truly brought her happiness: the sea.
It called to her like a lover and flowed through her like a life force. When her only peace is threatened to be taken away, Tris realizes there is nothing she wouldn’t do to remain with the ocean.
Even if it means taking her own life to do so.

But the sea isn’t done with her -not yet- and Tris soon finds herself submerged in a world where love, betrayal, and honor stand stronger than any other force of nature.

My Review: Tristaine is stuck in what seems like a permanent life of misery taking care of her drunken and angry father when things take a turn for the worse. In a drunken fit, Tristaine’s father sells her off to the last person in the world she would want to marry, Lord Fiero. In a fit of despair and desperation, Tristaine towards the only thing in her life that makes her feel safe: the sea.

After she throws herself in the ocean, she wakes up in the magical underwater city of the Inara where she meets Prince Imriel and learns of her own connection to the selkie community. But danger lurks as Tris and Imri grow closer, and a traitor threatens their happiness forever.

So, this story stole my heart simply because it’s based on Selkie lore. I’ve always been deeply interested in the freedom and tragedy behind the idea of Selkies and the authors manage to create a story that skillfully explores both aspects. The main focus of this book is the love story, which isn’t my typical read, but the plot was too tempting to resist. I’m not one to enjoy romantic storylines where it’s love at first sight or destined by fate but I was endeared by Tri and Imri’s relationship. They provided many emotional, charming moments and really made the story. However, even more than their relationship, I was invested in the other relationships in the book. Friends, family, foes…there is no connection that is left unexplored and exposed. Throughout the book’s many twists and turns, we learn that people are not always what they appear and not every story is true, and then we get to explore how people react to these truths. It’s riveting to watch the characters navigate these new and old relationships.

The book explores plenty of dark topics such as suicide, alcoholism, rape, and abuse. It would be easy for these ideas to take over the story and turn it into something dark and unenjoyable, but that line was carefully treaded and, despite the heartbreaking moments in the story, I came away from the book feeling at peace with the story. (Well, as much peace as is possible after having my heart broken and mended several times over the course of the novel)
I would absolutely recommend this book to any readers who enjoy a good dash of romantic fantasy. I think there’s lots of potential in the writing and I’m excited to see what these authors produce next. As for a possible sequel, I know I certainly wouldn’t mind learning what the future looks like for Tris and Imri, and I think anyone else who reads this book would agree with me.

Heir of Ra

Heir of Ra
by Maciek Sasinowski

Book: Blood of Ra #1
Publisher: Kingsmill Press
Pub Date: August 12, 2018
Genre: YA
Format: eBook
Source: Author
Book Links: Goodreads  Amazon

In Heir of Ra, Alyssa Morgan, the sixteen-year-old daughter of a maverick archaeologist, discovers the world is not quite what it seems when an excavation of the fabled Hall of Records beneath the Sphinx unleashes an ancient disease that leaves her father fighting for his life. As Alyssa races to find a cure, she stumbles upon a haunting artifact—and trespasses into the mind of an Egyptian god. The story continues in two parallel timelines, providing the accounts of a pair of distinct, yet ultimately linked characters: Alyssa, as she unravels memories of an advanced race hidden within the relic; and a young boy, Horus, exiled from his island home of Atlantis who rises to become worshiped as the falcon-headed god. Alyssa evades ruthless adversaries set on conquering the power within the artifact, and she discovers the value of Horus’s hybrid blood and its connection to the ancient disease.

My Review: In this thrilling tale, a teenage-girl named Alyssa begins to unravel an ancient mystery in order to save her father, and potentially millions of others, from a mysterious disease unleashed from an Egyptian tomb during an archaeological dig. This journey takes her into the mind of an Egyptian God, Horus, where Alyssa learns about the horrors and magic of Ancient Egypt. But Alyssa is not the only one looking for answers; a secret society watches her every move and is eager to get their hands on this knowledge. It’s up to Alyssa and her friends to find a way to stop them and save the world.

The ‘Heir of Ra’ caught my attention as soon as I read the synopsis. I was transported back to middle school, when I was obsessed with Ancient Egypt and their mythology, and I was excited to find a novel that was going to explore that world with a badass female protagonist. The author, Maciek Sasinowski, managed to create a vibrant and unique world that was skilled at raising as many questions as it answered. The adventure was fun, like something fit for a movie, and it left a lot of room for growth in future books.

However, despite the intriguing premise and great world building, the writing left something to be desired. There were a lot of overused phrases in the book, the dialogue was unnatural at times, and it was difficult to suspend my disbelief for some of the situations. These issues were jarring at times but can be overlooked if you’re interested enough in the actual story-line.

The hardest thing to overlook though was the characterization. While I advocate for strong female characters, it’s frustrating to only see that strength in women who are essentially perfect. They have skill, brains, and beauty, and even their flaws are charming. Alyssa, the main character, suffers from this but the biggest culprit of this was Tasha, one of the villains in the novel. She is essentially Black Widow - a beautiful, redheaded Russian woman with deadly assassination skills. She, like many of the characters, didn’t have any compelling depth to them (aside from a tragic backstory) and that made it difficult for me to be emotionally invested in the story. Partially because of this, the novel didn’t manage to hold my attention very well. I found myself skimming at several points and, while I was interested in the mystery, it was a struggle to reach the end. I know this is only book one of the series, so maybe we get to explore the characters and mysteries more fully in the next novel, but the jury is out on if I will be reading it.

A steamy contemporary YA romance by New York Times best-selling author Sophie Jordan about a girl with a bad reputation giving lessons on how to attract guys for some extra cash—only to fall for her client’s golden-boy brother. For fans of Kami Garcia, Katie McGarry, and Netflix’s Sex Education.

Wild, beautiful, and (as rumor has it) experienced, Hayden Vargas doesn’t have time for love or relationships. She’s learned the hard way that the only person you can count on is yourself, and she’s hell-bent on earning enough money to leave her small, judgy Texas town as fast as possible. So when nerdy Emmaline Martin offers to pay Hayden for lessons in seduction, the money is so easy, there must be a catch. Enter the catch: Emmaline’s older brother, popular, all-around nice guy™ Nolan Martin, who doesn’t want his sister’s reputation tarnished by the school’s resident bad girl.

But Hayden should know that looks can be deceiving. Nolan may seem like a golden boy, but like Hayden, he has a few secrets of his own. And the more he meddles in her lessons with Emmaline, the more these polar opposites clash—and the more sparks fly. Turns out Nolan may have some lessons to teach Hayden, but only if she’s willing to learn.

This breathtaking sequel to The Beholder will take you on a journey into a darkly sparkling fairy tale, perfect for fans of The Selection and Caraval.

When Selah found true love with Prince Torden of Norway, she never imagined she’d have to leave him behind. All because the Beholder’s true mission was a secret Selah’s crew didn’t trust her to keep: transporting weapons to the rebels fighting against the brutal tsarytsya, whose shadow looms over their next port of Shvartsval’d. A place Selah hoped she’d never go.

But gone is the girl who departed Potomac filled with fear. With a stockpile of weapons belowdecks and her heart hanging in the balance, Selah is determined to see the Beholder’s quest to its end.
